When we think about good quality whisky, we think about old distilleries in Scotland with a rich history, authentic craftsmanship and a dose of innovation. Two whisky brands that fit this mould are Glen Scotia and Loch Lomond. Both are award winning distilleries in Scotland dating back to the 19th century and both have a range of highly sophisticated single malt whiskies that have just landed on Australian shores in time for the festive season (just our luck)!
Now these aren’t just any whisky types either… Every single malt whisky landing in Australia from Glen Scotia and Loch Lomond has won a gold medal at various international spirit competitions around the world! Only the best will make it over here!
Fine craftsmanship comes in a number of ways and the master blender of both brands, Michael Henry, artfully balances the flavours of each barrel and gives each whisky its own personality, making this a one-of-a-kind drinking experience. Perfect to drink on its own or otherwise enjoy with friends over a cheeseboard, some duck or chicken liver pâté and a spread of various Italian salamis, washed down with a couple of green olives! Sounds like my sort of night in! So, put your RayBan glasses on, read the tasting notes thoroughly and enjoy!
The much awarded 12yo Single Malt from Loch Lomond recently received a Gold medal from the Berlin International Spirits Competition 2017. It has a crisp green apple, ripe pear and refreshing citrus lemon nose with background notes of golden cereal. There’s tastes of orchard fruits and lemon meringue and it has a medium length finish with gentle wood smoke and a lingering peaty tang. I know what I’m drinking tonight!
